Constitutional Responsibilities

  • The Vice President presides over the Senate, however is unable to vote in the Senate unless there is a tie vote
  • If something would happen to the President, the Vice President is the first perso to replace him
  • Eight Vice Presidents have become President due to the President's death
  • In many Presidential elections, the Vice President is chosen to attract voters and balance out the ticket

Presidential Succession

  • 25th Amendment of the United States Constitution declares Presidential Succession
  • In the event of a President's death or resignation the succession is as follows:
                    1. Vice President
                    2.  Speaker of the House
                    3. President Pro Tempore - oldest and longest serving member in the Senate
                    4. Members of the Cabinet - in order of creation
