The Three Branches of Government


Members from both the House of Representatives and Senate recieve a salary as well as many benefits. According to the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Congress may set their own salary which takes effect in the next election. Today, Congressmen are making roughly $176,000. Some of their benefits are as follows:

  • Discount haircuts
  • Free parking
  • Subsidized dining
  • Free medical care
  • Generous retirement plan
  • Free travel (home and abroad)
  • Full paid staff who are paid for by tax payers
  • Can not be arrested at, going to nor coming home from work
  • Can not be sued for what they say
  • Franking privilege- do not have to pay for postage
